HARNESS VOLTAGE TEST
2. Connect a jumper wire between regulator and
output terminal. Start engine and run at idle. If
charging voltage (13.8-14.8 volts) is present at
output terminal, the diode-trio is probably defec-
tive and alternator should be removed for repair.
With ignition off, unplug red/purple wire and check for
battery voltage at harness wire. No voltage at har-
ness wire indicates wiring harness is “open” and
should be repaired or replaced.

Be sure that engine compartment is well-venti-
lated and that there are no gasoline vapors pres-
ent (during the test) to prevent the possibility of
an explosion and/or a fire, should a spark occur.
