FUEL INJECTION DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY
Knock Sensor
NOTICE
Refer to “Service Precautions,” at front of this section BEFORE proceeding.
REMOVAL
1.
Disconnect electrical connector at Knock Sensor located just ahead of starter motor.

Remove Knock Sensor from engine block.
CLEANING AND INSPECTION

Clean Knock Sensor with a dry cloth, paying special attention to threads on base.
Inspect surfaces of Knock Sensor for signs of wear or physical damage.
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT: If installing a new Knock Sensor, be sure to replace it with an identical
part. Knock Sensors are very sensitive and designed for each specific application.
IMPORTANT: In the following step, it is very important that the Knock Sensor be
torqued to the precise specification. Incorrect torquing will result in unsatisfactory
performance. DO NOT use sealer on threads.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the Knock Sensor is installed in the upper location on the
Y-fitting.
1.
Install Knock Sensor in engine block. Torque to 12-16 lb-ft (16-22 Nm).

Connect electrical connector to Knock Sensor.
