Crankcase Front Cover
Removal

Remove engine from boat if necessary to gain access to cover.
Remove torsional damper and oil pan.
Remove water circulating pump.
IMPORTANT: Crankcase front cover is not reusable per G.M. Specification. It must be
replaced if removed.

Remove crankcase front cover.
If damaged, drive oil seal out of front cover (from the rear) using a punch.
Cleaning and Inspection
1.
Clean old gasket material and sealer from mating surfaces on cylinder block.
IMPORTANT: Surfaces must be clean and flat or oil leakage may result.
Installation
1.
Install oil seal in new cover with lip of seal toward inside of engine, using crankcase front
cover seal installer. Support cover around seal area with appropriate tool as shown.

Coat both sides of front cover gasket with Quicksilver Perfect Seal and place in position
on engine.
Install front cover, making sure holes in cover align with dowel pins in block. Torque front
cover attaching screws to 106 lb-in. (12 Nm).
