Drive belt
Fluid level
Worn, broken or out of adjustment

Air leak in lines, pump, or air from installa-
tion. Refer to SECTION 9A for bleeding
procedure.
Air in system
Refer to SECTION 9A for bleeding proce-
dure.
Leaking hoses
Cable or helm partially frozen from rust or
corrosion, cable over-lubricated, improper
cable installation.
Steering cables and/or steering helm
Refer to appropriate Sterndrive Service
Manual
Binding in stern drive unit
Restriction in hydraulic hoses
Control valve
Causes a loss of pressure
Not positioned properly, not balanced
properly, or the mounting nut is loose
Mounting bracket adjusting screw loose or
mounting tube is loose
Faulty pump
Flow control valve may be sticking
Causes loss of pressure
Worn piston ring or scored housing bore in
cylinder.
Leaking valve body or loose fitting spool
