Valve Stem Oil Seal / Valve Spring
Removal - Head Installed

Remove rocker arm cover.
Remove spark plug of affected cylinder.
Remove rocker arm assembly.
Install air line adaptor tool (J-23590) in spark plug hole and apply compressed air to hold
valves in place.
NOTE: If compressed air is not available, piston may be brought up to TDC and used to keep
valves from falling out of valve guides.
IMPORTANT: Do not turn crankshaft while valve springs, retainers, and locks are
removed or valves will fall into cylinder.

Using valve spring compressor as shown, compress valve spring and remove valve
locks.

Slowly release valve spring compressor.
Remove cap, shield, and valve spring.
IMPORTANT: Keep air pressure in cylinder while springs, caps, and valve locks are
removed or valves will fall into cylinder.
8.
Remove seals from valve stems and valve guide.
