Changing the trim system gear

Remove the sterndrive according to the section in-
stallation and removal.

-4 should be shown in the instrument window for a
transom angle. Move the sending unit in either
direction until the correct number is displayed on the
trim gauge. Other transom angle settings are as fol-
lows:

Pull the steering helmet aft far enough to clear the
gear wheel. Turn the gear wheel so that the digital trim
instrument indicates -4.

Tighten the trim sender bracket hold down screw.
Be sure the sending unit does not move when the
bracket is tightened.

Pull the gear wheel straight down. There will be
some resistance because of the retaining pawl in the
bushing. Note the position of the drive end of the shaft
when removing it. This will ease installation of the new
shaft in the same position.
NOTE! Always use a new O-ring whenever the gear
wheel is removed.
