Inner propeller shaft

Remove the pinion gear and the front gear from
the lower unit housing. The forward gear should be
free to remove from the housing with the forward bear-
ing attached to the gear.

Press off the roller bearing from the propeller
shaft, using special tool 884797.

NOTE! Take care of the shims.
Outer propeller shaft

Remove the forward gear bearing outer race from
the lower unit, using special tool 884794 and slide
hammer 884161. Remove the shims from the housing.
NOTE! Be careful not to damage the shims! Save
them for use later.

Insert the shaft in special tool 884831. Install pull-
er halves between the shaft and the special tool. In-
stall special tool 884789 on the shaft to protect the
shaft during pressing operations. Press off the bearing
race.
WARNING! Do not use a knife puller or other,
similar tool to remove this bearing race. Such
tools may scratch the sealing surfaces of the
shaft (1) and result in water leaking into the
sterndrive.

Use special tool 885226 with handle 884143. Drive
the needle bearing from the lower unit gear housing.
