When storing outdoors, make sure the supporting frame-
work keeps the weight of the snow and rain from accumu-
lating on the storage cover. Proper ventilation must also
be provided or dry rot and mildew will occur. See Section
R - General Maintenance for additional winter storage in-
formation.

When an engine is running, a natural vacuum may exist
with the right wind and sea conditions to allow exhaust
gases (which includes carbon monoxide) to seep into the
boat. When canvas is utilized, this compounds the
possibility of this occurring and inhibits natural ventilation.

oxide in this manual.

MAINTENANCE
The carbon monoxide in exhaust fumes can be hazard-
ous. It is important for you and your passengers to be
aware of the potential safety hazard created by exhaust
fumes. Familiarizeyourselfwiththesymptomsofindividu-
als overcome by carbon monoxide, and most importantly,
ways you can protect yourself and your guests. See Fig-
ure O6 - Carbon Monoxide Canvas Warning Label and
Figure O7 - Carbon Monoxide Warning Label.

Moisture, dirt, chemicals from industrial fallout, heat, ul-
traviolet rays and in some cases, salt water are factors
which affect the longevity of acrylic covers. See Figure
O8.

Moisture can cause shrinkage and mildew. Allow
thecovertodrythoroughlybeforedisassemblingtops.
Keep it clean and well ventilated to prevent mildew.
SprayingtheweathercoverwithLysolDisinfectant™
or similar product will help prevent mildew.

Dirt creates a starting point for mildew when mois-
ture is present. Clean the top with a sponge or soft
scrub brush and mild detergent when the cover is
installed. Make sure cover is snug to help prevent
shrinkage.
