USING YOUR EVINRUDE E-TEC OUTBOARD
Alcohol Fuels
Your outboard has been designed to operate using the
specified fuels; however, be aware of the following:
•
The boat’s fuel system may have different requirements
regarding the use of alcohol fuels. Refer to the boat’s
owner guide.
•
Alcohol blended fuel may cause engine performance
problems.
NOTICE
that can cause corrosion of metallic parts in the fuel
system.
Alcohol attracts and holds moisture
1
Using alcohol-extended fuels is acceptable ONLY if the al-
cohol content does not exceed:
•
•
10% ethanol by volume; or
5% methanol with 5% cosolvents by volume.
1.
Fuel hose – 9 mm (3/8 in.)
WARNING
FUEL ADDITIVES
Store fuel tanks in a well-ventilated area, away
from heat and open flame. Prevent escape of liq-
uid or vapors which could accidentally ignite.
The only fuel additives approved for use in your Evinrude
E-TEC outboard are:
•
•
Evinrude/Johnson 2+4 Fuel Conditioner
Evinrude/Johnson Fuel System Cleaner
Close the filler cap vent screw, if equipped.
Be sure the disconnected fuel hose does not drip.
Use of other fuel additives can result in poor perfor-
mance or engine damage.
IMPORTANT: Fuel distribution hoses in the boat must de-
liver fuel at the rate of flow needed by the outboard. Mini-
mum inside diameter of fuel hoses must be 9 mm (3/8 in.).
Evinrude/Johnson 2+4 Fuel Conditioner will help prevent
gum and varnish deposits from forming in fuel system com-
ponents and will remove moisture from the fuel system. It
can be used continuously and should be used during any
period when the outboard is not being operated on a regu-
lar basis. Its use will reduce spark plug fouling, fuel system
icing, and fuel system component deterioration.
Fuel systems with built-in tanks, particularly those that in-
clude antisiphon valves and filter/primer units, may have
restrictions not allowing the engine fuel pump to deliver suf-
ficient fuel under all conditions. This can result in a loss of
performance. If a performance problem exists, see your
Dealer.
Evinrude/Johnson Fuel System Cleaner will help keep fuel
injectors in optimal operating condition.

Connecting the Fuel Hose
If the outboard is run out of fuel, refill the fuel tank and
squeeze the primer bulb until firm.
1)
If the fuel hose is disconnected for any reason, seal it to
prevent spillage. Cap the fuel fitting to prevent contam-
ination.
2)
Connect the fuel hose to the 9 mm (3/8 in.) fuel fitting.
Fasten hose securely with clamp (18.5 mm) from own-
er’s kit.

OWNER OF A 2010 E-TEC 130 HP ON A WELD-CRAFT 18 FT BASS BOAT. A TOTAL WASTE OF GOOD MONEY. E-TEC IS THE WORST MOTOR ON THE MARKET. MINE OVERHEATS AND HAS LEFT ME STRANDED MANY TIMES. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD TOW LINE IF YOU DECIDE TO BUY ONE.
