Place the engine so that it is resting on the fly-
wheel. Make sure that the inner thrust washer is
correctly located. Place the outer thrust washer
on the crankshaft with the flat surface towards
the main bearing. Fit the distance washer with
the flat surface toward the thrust washer.

Fit the starter motor and the oil pump. NOTE!
Put a little oil into the pump before fitting.

Fit the key and the flywheel (the taper must be

Fit the key for the crankshaft drive. Heat the
gearwheel to about 100°C (212°F) and fit it onto
the crankshaft. Check to make sure that the in-
ner thrust washer does not move from its cor-
rect position.

MD17: Smear both thrust washers with grease
and place one of them on the inner side of the
bearing shield, turning the flat side towards the
main bearing. Ensure that the lug on the washer
fits into the recess in the shield. Fit the bearing
shield onto the engine and tighten the screws.

Fit the camshaft and ensure that the oil pump
shaft fits into the slot in the camshaft. Lock the
screws with the lock washers. MD17: Note the
location of the oil passage.
