Unscrew the left handed carrier screw/nut on the

camshaft. Pull out the cam disc and the gear-

wheel together. (On MD11, the crankshaft can

be dismantled without taking off the camshaft

gearwheel).

Remove the starter motor and its bracket.

MD11, certain models: Remove the belt pulley

that is mounted on the flywheel. MD17: Remove

the bearing shield.

Remove the oil pump.

FLYWHEEL

Bend out the lock washer and unscrew the cent-

ral nut. Pull off the flywheel using the puller

Take care of the key. NOTE! The nut is

pulled using 500 Nm (50 kpm = 369 lbf.ft.)

20.

MD11: Remove the front engine brackets. Re-

move the bearing shield.
