Using Your Evinrude E-TEC
Shallow Water Drive
WARNING
When in shallow water drive, your
motor has no protection from the
effects of underwater impact.
You can tilt the outboard to any position with-
in the tilt range. If idling a tilted outboard,
keep its water intakes submerged at all
times.
Operate the motor in FORWARD and
ONLY at slow speed. The motor can
tilt up forcibly and drop suddenly if it
hits an underwater object or if you
shift to REVERSE and apply throttle.
You could lose control.
Engaging Shallow Water Drive
Slow the engine and shift to NEUTRAL before
engaging or disengaging shallow-water drive.
Move tilt/run lever to TILT position.
Grasp tilt grip on engine cover and tilt out-
board until shallow water drive link engages
trim angle adjustment rod.
Relocate the motor angle adjusting rod if nec-
essary. Refer to Shallow Water Drive on
page 36.
Disengaging Shallow Water Drive
Move tilt/run lever to RUN position.
Grasp tilt grip on engine cover and raise out-
board slightly.
The shallow water drive link will automatically
disengage.
Slowly lower outboard to its normal operating
position.
