   Using Your Evinrude E-TEC
OIL AND FUEL
OIL REQUIREMENTS
If a  “LOW OIL”  warning occurs,  refill the  oil
tank immediately. You have a limited amount
of normal operation before running  out of oil.
Refer to Engine Monitoring on page  41. Fill
the oil  tank with  recommend oil  as soon  as
possible. Refer to Oil Requirements on page

The following outboard oils  are recommend-
ed for use in your Evinrude E-TEC outboard:
Filling the Oil Tank
Evinrude/Johnson XD100;
Evinrude/Johnson XD50; or
Evinrude/Johnson XD30.
IMPORTANT:  The  oil  tank  capacity  is  1.5
quarts (1.4 liters).
Release rear engine cover latch by pulling the
handle back and turning downward.
Evinrude/Johnson XD100 Oil
Evinrude/Johnson XD100  oil is  preferred
for  your Evinrude  E-TEC  outboard.  This
synthetic   formula  oil   provides  uncompro-
mised lubrication and  superior performance,
even  in  extreme   conditions—especially  in
cold temperatures down to 0°F (-17°C).
Other Oils
If Evinrude/Johnson brand oils are  not avail-
able, you must use  an oil that meets NMMA
TC-W3 certification standards.

IMPORTANT: Failure to  follow oil specifica-
tions could void the engine warranty if a lubri-
cation-related failure occurs.
Pull up on the tilt handle to release the engine
cover seal on the engine cover.
OILING SYSTEM INFORMATION

The  oiling system  must  be primed  on  new
outboards. Refer to Priming the Oil System
on page  19. Check oil tank  level frequently.
Always  “top off”  your  oil  tank  prior to  pro-
longed usage or long trips.
New outboards are programmed to use addi-
tional oil during  the first two hours  of opera-
tion above 2000 RPM.
