TILTING AND TRIM
Tilt
When you are finished tilting the outboard, disengage the
tilt lock lever:
The full tilt is often used to tilt the outboard for clearance
when beaching, mooring, or launching.
1)  Tilt the outboard UP.
2)
3)
Flip the tilt lock lever up.
Lower the outboard to operating position.
Trim
Manual Release Valve
In most operating conditions, it is recommended to trim
the outboard to the full down position when accelerating.
Once on plane, trim the outboard up for best performance.
If needed, the outboard will tilt up or down manually, using
the manual release valve.
Over-trimming  increases  engine  RPM  while  decreasing
speed. The best trim setting is when the highest speed is
achieved with the lowest engine RPM.
WARNING
Keep everyone clear of a tilted outboard when back-
ing  out  the  manual  release  screw.  The  outboard
could drop suddenly and forcibly. Be sure to tighten
the manual release screw after manually reposition-
ing the outboard. Tightening the screw also reacti-
vates the outboard’s impact protection and reverse
thrust capability.
Shallow Water Drive
You  can  tilt the  outboard  to  any  position  within  the  tilt
range but DO NOT run the engine faster than idle speed.
If  idling  a  tilted  outboard,  keep  its  water  intakes  sub-
merged at all times.
1)
Turn the manual release screw counterclockwise, slow-
ly (about 3 1/2 turns), until it lightly contacts its retain-
ing ring.
2)
3)
Reposition the outboard.
Tighten the manual release valve to hold the outboard
in its new position.
