Using Your E-TEC Outboard
Upon start-up, release the button.
ENGINE STOPPING
If the engine did not start, release the button
momentarily, then try again.
Twist the throttle grip to SHIFT position or
slower.
IMPORTANT: Engine will not start if outboard Move shift lever to NEUTRAL.
is in gear, if lanyard is not in place.
Press the STOP button until the outboard
stops running. If equipped, close the vent
screw on the fuel tank’s filler cap.
If your outboard does not react normally to
this starting procedure or if it fails to start, re-
fer to Troubleshooting on page 55.
After Engine Starts
Check the water pump indicator. A steady
stream of water indicates the water pump is
working. If a steady stream of water from the
water pump indicator is not visible, stop the
engine. Refer to Engine Overheating on
page 41.
