OPERATION
TRAILERING
DANGER
Trailer your boat with the motor in a vertical posi-
tion. If your trailer does not provide adequate road
clearance, the motor can be trailered by using the
tilt support or an accessory trailering bracket. Refer
to Tilt Support.
DO NOT run the engine indoors or without
adequate ventilation or permit exhaust
fumes to accumulate in confined areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide
which, if inhaled, can cause serious brain
damage or death.
IMPORTANT: Whenever using the tilt support or an
accessory trailering bracket, the motor must be re-
strained. Bouncing during transport will damage the
motor and boat’s transom.
DANGER
TILTING
Contact with a rotating propeller is likely to
result in serious injury or death. Assure the
engine and prop area is clear of people and
objects before starting engine or operating
boat. Do not allow anyone near a propeller,
even when the engine is off. Blades can be
sharp and the propeller can continue to turn
even after the engine is off. Always shut off
the engine when near people in the water.
WARNING
If you tilt the engine and leave it tilted, close
the fuel tank vent screw (turn clockwise)
and close the fuel shut-off valve (turn so
handle is horizontal). Failure to do so might
allow fuel leakage which could lead to
explosion or fire.
MOTOR ANGLE ADJUSTMENT
IMPORTANT: Use the tilt grip to tilt your motor; not
the steering handle.
Motor should be perpendicular to the water when
the boat is underway at full speed. This adjustment
can only be determined by water testing the boat.
Set angle adjustment for your normal load.
Place motor in full tilt position. Refer to Tilt Sup-
port.
•
Turn the angle adjusting rod handle up. Push in
against spring so retainer will release, then slide
rod assembly all the way out.
•
•
Insert rod in desired position. Make sure rod
passes through both stern brackets.
Push in against spring and turn rod handle down.
Make sure the retainer dropped into lock position.
