Some engines are equipped with devices that limit en-
gine rpm in accordance with the oil pressure or engine
temperature. Refer to the engineowner's manual for ad-
ditionalinformation.
NOTICE
Operation of an engine with abnormally low oil
pressure can lead to engine damage and pos-
sibleseizure. Havetheengineservicedimmedi-
ately upon a reduced oil pressure indication.
B. Speedometer
E. Voltmeter
A speedometer is not available on the 378 Vista™. With
the optional GPS/Navigational package the ability to
monitor your speed becomes available. Please refer to
the manufacturer’s literature for programming the GPS
unit for speed readings. This information is included in
the owner’s packet when the boat is ordered with the
navigation package.
The voltmeter monitors battery condition and thus alter-
nator performance. See Section H - Electrical Systems
for additional information on voltmeter operation.
F. Fuel Gauge
The Fuel Gauge displays the level of fuel that is present
in the fuel tank. Refer to Section I - Fuel System for
additionalinformation.
NOTICE
Speed indicators are not precision instruments.
The indications are relative and should never be
used for navigational purposes or similar critical
situations alone. Use other navigation systems
in conjunction with the speedometer.
Due to the mechanical nature of the fuel sender, varia-
tions in readings during various speeds of operation may
occur. This system is merely a relative indication of the
available fuel supply and not a calibrated instrument.
Relative adjustments can be made by bending the fuel
sender float arm.
NOTICE
DO NOT rely on the speed indicator when trying
toachievea“NO WAKE”conditioninaharboror
other enclosed waterway. ALWAYS be cogni-
zant of the size of your waves your boat is mak-
ing and reduce throttle until you are sure that
they will not cause any damage. You are
responsible for damage caused by the wake of
your boat.
NOTICE
Fuel gauges are not precision instruments. The
reading is relative, and should never be relied
upon as the sole indicator of fuel availability.
NOTICE
Use only clean, dry fuel of the type and grade
recommendedbytheenginemanufacturer. The
use of incorrect or contaminated fuel can cause
engine malfunction and serious damage. Refer
to Section I - Fuel System for additional informa-
tion.
C. Temperature Gauge
The temperature gauge monitors the cooling system of
the engine. Asudden increase in the temperature could
beasignalofablockedcoolingpassageorawaterpump
malfunction.
G. Depthsounder
NOTICE
Operation of an overheated engine can result in
engine seizure. If an unusually high tempera-
ture reading occurs, shut the engine off immedi-
ately.
A depthsounder is included in the optional navigation
packages. Please consult the manufacturer’s literature
included in the owner’s packet for operation and care of
the depthsounder.
D. Oil Pressure Gauge
H. Gas Vapor Detector
The oil pressure gauge indicates the pressure in the en-
gine lubrication system. A drop in oil pressure is a pos-
sible indication of oil pump or leakage problems.
The Gas Vapor Detector is standard equipment on the
378
Vista™. The gauge mounts in the dash. Additional
information can be found in Section I-1H in this manual.
