Chapter 11: Electrical System
12-Volt DC System
Batteries
•
•
The batteries supply electricity for lights, 12-volt accessories, engine starting and, if equipped, generator starting.
The Care & Maintenance chapter in the Cruiser & Yacht Owner’s Manual provides battery care and
maintenance instructions.
Battery Switches
!
CAUTION
SHOCK and ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DAMAGE HAZARD!
When the engine is running, NEVER turn Off the battery switch or disconnect the bat-
tery cables. Doing either could cause damage to your boat’s engine and/or electrical
system components.
NOTICE
Make sure your selling dealer fully explains how to use the battery switches.
•
•
Standby-loads, such as the automatic bilge pumps
and the stereo memory, are not affected by the
battery switches since they are wired directly to
the batteries.
Turn the battery switches to the Off position
whenever your boat will be unoccupied for long
periods of time.
Emergency Battery Parallel Switch
•
If an engine will not start because its battery is
dead, turn on the battery parallel switch to use the
other batteries for engine starting.
•
Turn Off the parallel switch as soon as the
engine starts.
Fuses & Circuit Breakers
•
Circuit breakers for engines and main accessory power are on the 12-volt DC push-to-reset circuit breaker panel
and on the battery switch panel.
•
See the Component Locations section in Chapter 2 for the locations of the battery switch panel and the 12-volt DC
push-to-reset circuit breakers.
NOTE: Some equipment may have secondary fuse protection at the unit, behind the battery switch panel, or at
the batteries.
