PROPELLER SELECTION
4)
5)
Place the shift lever in NEUTRAL with the
propeller removed.
Start the water — keep pressure between 20
to 40 psi (140 to 300 kPa).
To select the correct propeller for your boating ap-
plication, your boat and motor MUST be water test-
ed. See your Dealer for assistance.
Refer to Propeller, before removing or installing
propeller.
IMPORTANT: The correct propeller for your boat,
under normal load conditions, will allow the engine
to run near the midpoint of the RPM operating
range at full throttle. Refer to Engine Specifica-
tions.

6)
Start the engine — run it at idle only and
flush it for at least five minutes. Check the
water pump indicator. A steady stream of wa-
ter must flow. If it does not, shut OFF the en-
gine and investigate. Refer to Engine
Overheating.
DO NOT run the engine indoors or without
adequate ventilation or permit exhaust
fumes to accumulate in confined areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide
which, if inhaled, can cause serious brain
damage or death.
See your Dealer for a flushing device designed to fit
your engine. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for
installing and using it.
