Hold a suitable container under the oil drain
screw. Remove the screw and drain the re-
servior. Before you reinstall the screw, replace
the gasket with a new one. Reinstall the screw
and tighten it securely.
Cleaning the Oil Filter
IMPORTANT: After the first 10 hours of operation
and every 100 operating hours (or annually, if first),
clean the oil filter.

Remove the nut and washer from the aft screw
that joins the lower engine cover halves. Leave
the screw in place. Do not dislodge the upper
engine cover latch.

Place a rag under the oil filter. Unscrew the hex
head of the oil filter. Pull the loosened port en-
gine cover far enough to gently slide the filter
out.

Pour the recommended oil into the oil fill until it
reaches FULL on the dipstick. Refer to Engine
Specifications for crankcase capacity.
Replace the oil fill cap and clean any spilled oil
off the engine and your skin.
Supply water to the cooling system and run the
engine at idle to check for leaks, especially
around the oil filter, drain screw, and oil fill cap.
Correct any problems.

Stop the engine and recheck crankcase oil lev-
el using the dipstick. Add oil as indicated.

Using Evinrude/Johnson Cleaning Solvent (or
equivalent), flush the filter and lightly brush it
clean. Examine the filter and the two O-rings for
damage. Replace damaged components.
Lightly lubricate the filter’s O-rings with motor
oil. Be sure the filter is securely seated in its
hex head cover. Reinstall the clean filter and
tighten it securely.

Dispose of used oil in a reasonable manner follow-
ing all local regulations.
