Lightly lubricate the filter’s O-rings with motor
oil. Be sure the filter is securely seated in its
hex head cover. Remove the rag, reinstall the
clean filter, and tighten it securely. Clean up
any spilled oil.
Reinstall the coil. Place the coil against its
mount and insert one of the screws through the
star washer, through the coil’s ground strap,
through the spacer, and into the lower boss.
Make sure the star washer is between the
screw head and the coil’s ground strap. Install
the upper screw.
ADJUSTMENTS
Idle Speed
The idle speed adjusting knob is located at the end
of the steering handle. Before turning the knob, be
sure the throttle is at SLOW and the motor has
reached normal operating temperature:

If your engine displays poor running quality at idle,
ask your DEALER to perform the necessary adjust-
ments.
IMPORTANT: Failure to install the screws correctly
will result in coil damage.

Throttle Friction
Torque the coil screws to 48 to 96 in. lbs. (5 to
10 N·m).
Reinstall the lower engine cover, being careful
to seat or engage all seals and grommets prop-
erly and securely as you go. Press the upper
engine cover seal into place.
Adjust until a slight drag is felt when accelerating or
decelerating only. DO NOT overtighten.

Reinstall the water pump indicator hose and
choke knob.
