Loosen the two rear lower engine cover screws
until they are free of their seats in the starboard
cover. Push the water pump indicator hose in-
side and use its opening to access the lower
screw.

Remove the bottom screw from the ignition coil
and, as you back it out, be ready to catch the
spacer that’s behind the coil. Remove the top
screw and, with the leads still connected, hold
the coil to the side to clear a path for removing
the oil filter. Keep the screws, star washer, and
spacer.

Remove the upper engine cover seal from the
starboard lower engine cover.

Stuff a rag under the oil filter. Unscrew the hex
head of the oil filter. Gently slide the filter out.

Remove the starboard cover by working it away
from the grommet at the front seam and the ex-
haust deflector at the aft seam.
8)
Using Evinrude/Johnson Cleaning Solvent (or
equivalent), flush the filter and lightly brush it
clean. Examine the filter and the two O-rings for
damage. Replace damaged components.
