RELEASE Position (UP)
Move the tilt lock lever to the RELEASE position.
Use the RELEASE position in FORWARD when
you are unsure of depth or concealed objects. Plac-
ing the tilt lock lever in the RELEASE position al-
lows the motor to tilt up if you strike an underwater
object, reducing the chance of damage to the mo-
tor. Refer to Shallow-Water Drive for details on
shallow water operation.

CAUTION
When you operate the motor with the tilt
lock lever in the RELEASE position, forces
such as propeller thrust during operation in
REVERSE, rapid deceleration, and striking
an underwater object can cause the motor
to lift out of the water, resulting in personal
injury. To avoid such injury, use the
RELEASE position only for shallow water
operation, and operate the motor with cau-
tion, and only at very low speeds.
