Start the engine — run it at idle only and
flush it for at least five minutes. Check the
water pump indicator. A steady stream of wa-
ter must flow. If it does not, shut OFF the en-
gine and investigate. Refer to Engine
Overheating.
DANGER
DO NOT run the engine indoors or without
adequate ventilation or permit exhaust
fumes to accumulate in confined areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide
which, if inhaled, can cause serious brain
damage or death.
See your Dealer for a flushing device designed to fit
your engine. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for
installing and using it.

Leave the outboard in vertical position long
enough to completely drain the powerhead.
Prevent injury from contact with rotating
propeller; remove the propeller before
flushing.
LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING
Outboard — Running
Should crankcase oil pressure drop to a danger-
ously low level during engine operation, the low oil
pressure light will come on.

Place the engine in vertical position in a well-
ventilated area with good drainage.
Install flushing device and garden hose.
Cover the water intake hole with tape.
Place the shift lever in NEUTRAL with the
propeller removed.

Start the water — keep pressure between 20
to 40 psi (140 to 300 kPa).

Low oil pressure light

If the low oil pressure light is on, the engine speed
will not exceed 2000 RPM (FAST idle).
If, during operation, your engine slows itself to fast
idle and will not exceed that pace, shut OFF the en-
gine.
If tilted, place the engine in vertical position.
