OPERATION
Tilt Lock Lever
DANGER
The  tilt  lock  lever  has  two  positions:  The  down
LOCK position and the up RELEASE position.
DO NOT run the engine indoors or without
adequate   ventilation    or   permit   exhaust
fumes   to  accumulate   in  confined   areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide
which,  if  inhaled,  can  cause  serious  brain
damage or death.
WARNING
1
Tilt lock lever – LOCK position
Contact with  a rotating propeller  is likely to
result in serious  injury or death. Assure the
engine and prop  area is clear of people  and
objects before  starting  engine or  operating
boat. Do  not allow anyone  near a propeller,
even when  the engine is  off. Blades can  be
sharp and the propeller can continue to turn
even after the  engine is off. Always  shut off
the engine when near people in the water.
1.
LOCK Position (DOWN)
Use  the  LOCK  position  when  operating  in  RE-
VERSE and in normal deep water operation where
there is no likelihood of striking underwater objects.
Placing the tilt lock lever in the LOCK position pre-
vents the motor from lifting out of the water due to
forces such as propeller thrust during operation in
REVERSE or rapid deceleration.
MOTOR ANGLE ADJUSTMENT
CAUTION
The  motor  should  be  perpendicular  to  the  water
when the boat is underway at full speed. This ad-
justment can only be determined by water testing
the  boat.  Set  angle  adjustment  for  your  normal
load.
Place motor in full tilt position. Refer to Tilting.
Move angle adjusting rod as shown.
If  you  strike  an  underwater  object  with  tilt
lock  lever   in  the   LOCK  position,   severe
damage may result, even though the force
may  be  sufficient  to  release  the  tilt  lock.
When operating the motor in an area where
you   may   encounter   underwater  objects,
move  the  tilt  lock  lever  to   the  RELEASE
position and operate the motor only at very
low speeds.
TILTING
IMPORTANT: Use the tilt grip to tilt your motor. Do
not use the tiller handle to raise or lower the motor.
