When cruising in  shallow water, do not
operate in  reverse. Reverse  thrust can
cause the  outboard motor to  lift out  of
the water,  increasing the  chance of  an
accident and personal injury.

Do not tilt  the outboard motor up  so that
the cooling water inlet on the lower unit is
above the surface  of the water when  set-
ting up for  and cruising in shallow water.
Otherwise severe damage from  overheat-
ing can result.

Operate the boat at the  lowest possible
speed when  cruising in  shallow water.
Hitting  an  underwater  obstacle   could
cause the  outboard motor to  lift out  of
the water, resulting in loss of control.
