If the electric starter fails or the battery’s voltage is
too low to power the starter, use the cord from the
tool kit and these instructions to start your engine
manually.
IMPORTANT: The battery must have enough re-
serve voltage to activate the electric pump or the
engine will not start using the emergency starting
procedures. Do your best to determine battery sta-
tus by listening for the electric fuel pump audible cy-
cle before continuing the emergency starting
procedures. The electric fuel pump cycles each
time the key switch is turned from OFF to ON.
1.
NEUTRAL
Place key switch in OFF position with the motor in
normal operating position. Refer to Tilting.
After starting, run the engine in NEUTRAL with the
throttle at the START position for two minutes.
Then reduce speed to an idle.
Move the control handle to NEUTRAL, then remove
engine cover.
DO NOT attempt to replace manual starter or en-
gine cover while engine is running. If equipped, at-
tach emergency stop switch’s lanyard to a secure
place on your clothing.
Loosen the lock nut. Remove the cable from the
bracket. Separate end of cable from the cam.
Proceed to nearest harbor for service.
FUEL ECONOMY
The economy throttle range can save fuel, depend-
ing on boat load and hull design. When boat reach-
es top speed, throttle back from FULL SPEED to
the economy throttle range. You will save fuel with-
out a noticeable loss of speed.

Tie a knot in one end of the emergency starter cord.

ton.
Place knot of starter cord in notch on flywheel pul-
ley. Wrap cord around pulley clockwise.
Follow the starting procedure in Engine Starting.
While seated, pull hard on emergency starting cord
quickly and completely. Repeat, if necessary.
